GREET OUR NEW AND BEAUTIFUL CHAPLAIN
Father belongs to the Syro-Malabar Rite in the Catholic Church. He might be able to trace his ancestry to the Holy Family! It is well known that the Indian diocese in Kottayam that was always home to him had its Catholic origin in 345 A.D. when a group of 400 Jewish Christians belonging to 72 families migrated to the present Kerala from present Iraq under the leadership of Thomas of Kenai and Bishop Urha Mar Joseph. Perhaps this is the reason his parents, Chacko and Achamma Mutholath, gave the names Abraham to their second son.
Father has an older brother and five sisters. One is Sr. Saly, S.V.M. vvho is a nurse in Faido, Svvitzerland.
Fr. Abraham was ordained a priest on December 21, 1980.
Father has made his marks as a writer, administrator, student and chaplain of everything. He has had four books published You Too Can Be a Leader, Leadership Training, Bible Games and Priestly Leadership - Today, Tomorrow.
Father wrote a satirical novel on the life of immigrants in the United States. This became a motion picture with Fr. Abraham as the screen writer and finalizer of the screenplay, vvhich eventually was shown additionally on TV.
It's not possible to write of all of Father's achievements in India and now in this country. The apple of his eye, however, is the Agape Movement which mainly consists of self-help groups for women, widows, senior citizens, unmarried and unemployed girls, students from economically weak families and of physically and mentally handicapped, leading to the self reliance of these desperate souls.
In order to administer to the people of the Syro-Malabar Rite, the decision was made to include the United States. In 1987 Fr. Abraham came to Los Angeles and studied higher Communications. He studied journalism and completed a certificate program in Television Production. He then gained a Master of Arts degree in TV Production from Loyola-Marymount University in Los Angeles.
During this time he celebrated Mass almost daily at Robert F. Kennedy Medical Center in Los Angeles and that is how Father was introduced to Eucharistic Home ShrineS. His home base now is Chicago where he is the Vicar General of the "Eparchy."--a term used to designate a diocese of an Eastern Church. Father's responsibilities include Catechism, Youth, Pious Associations, Vocations, Family Apostolate, and Special Concerns of the Knanaya Catholic Community. Father is very impressed with the Catholicism of the people of Chicago, I might add.
Father worked very hard establishing a web page for us, and we may be found on www.eucharistichomeshrines.org. Our e-mail address is eucharistichomeshrines@mindspring.com. If you have an e-mail address, please let us know.
And do pray for our dear Father Abraham that he will always be as good a priest as he possibly can! |
